Hi, teacher,
Yesterday I read a article about the NBA player, Yao, and met the following phrase in this article, could you pls tell me the meaning of the word 'post' in 'post-Yao area'?
Thanks
Is he retiring or leaving?
But I still can not well understand the meaning of this phrase, could you pls give me more detairs?
Thanks and regards
I'm not sure. If he is a great player and is leaving or moving, then the 'post-Yao era' makes sense, as it will mark a new time for the club. I was thinking it could be a typo.
In American basketball, "post" refers to an offensive position near the lane to the basket (the "key"). There is a high post position near the free-throw line and a low post position near the basket. If I could read the entire article I could probably better explain what the writer was talking about.
Thanks; I am afraid that American sports are beyond my ken.![]()
Hi, Thanks for your help, but I can not get more support from my dictionary about the phrase ' Beyond my ken', could you pls give me more explanation, thanks
It means it is something that you don't know about.
Thanks
'ken' is an old word that survives in some dialects and a few phrases meaning 'know'.![]()
