Hi,
Is it possible to omit the preposition?
They always ask my advice.

In this sentence yes. But if you say " They always ask me for advice." the prepodsition is necessary.

Are you sure that "They always ask me my advice" is not used at all?

Yes, it could be used, though it's a bit ugly, but I think Harry meant that 'they always ask me advice' wouldn't work.

Do you mean that "they always ask me advice" is also ugly?
Do we always have to use "for" for "ask" even if the verb can be followed by two nouns?
