What does "throw something to the floor" mean?
Thanks
The context is:
"There have been some objections, but basically they threw it to the floor and
said ‘Do we definitely want to have it here (the contest), because obviously it’s
going to come soon, and we would need full support.’ And at the end they all
said yes."
Is it an Australian expression?
If you're having a debate, the floor is the audience, so if throw something to the floor, you open the discussion up to all present at a debate, meeting, etc. We use it in the UK, so it's not only found the Australian English.![]()
