Default Release, Relief, Relieved - used in an expression!

Dear Teacher,

Greetings! I am an Asian staying in US. Recently I have a word usage problem would like to be adviced. The words are release, relief, and relieved.
  • I would like to request help in an expression sentence. I expressed myself where I run out of a problem for long time. So, I say, "What a release man!" I mimic the African American sayings by adding a man at the back.
  • I got a friendly forummer asked me, do I mean relief!
  • I found that relief is right because release is a verb and relief is a noun.
  • Another friendly forummer suggested that, isn't relieved is better.
I would like to request teacher provides advices for me. Thank you.

Sincerely,
me_learnEng

If you'd been struggling with a problem, and finally found a resolution, you'd probably say, "What a relief, man!" Or you could say, "I'm so relieved to have that problem finally solved, man."

Relief is a noun.
Relieved is a verb in the past tense.

You would only use "release" if you had some sort of built-up stress or energy that you needed to get rid of. Then you might say, "Every day after work, I go to the gym and walk three miles on the treadmill. That's my release, man."

By the way, "man" is a common interjection used by people of all races, not just African-Americans.

2. "What a release man!" - incorrect (except in very rare contexts, commenting on a fastener - another meaning for the noun)

3. "Every day after work, I go to the gym and walk three miles on the treadmill. That's my release, man." - correct

4. What a relieved man!" - incorrect ( unless you're referring to 'a relieved man'!)

5. "I'm so relieved to have that problem finally solved, man."- correct

so, release aslo can be a noun in #3, right?

Thanks, BobK,

The man is not a noun, but a verbal expression. When adding a coma to the sentence, is it correct?
  • What a release, man!
  • What a relieved, man!
Are these verbal expression still correct when posted in an interacting forum? Interacting means that we communicate in verbal form but post in wordings into the forum. Hope I don't confuse you!

But you might say when referring perhaps to someone who has sadly died after a long illness; 'It is a release for him' (from his pain and suffering)

Thanks, Bob and curmudgeon.
  1. So release, man!
  2. So relief, man!
  3. So relieved, man!
One more time, please. I put my expression as the above ways. I see 1 and 2 are correct, but 3 is not. Hear soon!

'Release' and 'relief' are nouns; ('release' can be a verb too, but not here); so, rather than 'so' they take 'such a': such a relief/release. You're right about 3; 'relieved' is an adjective, so it takes 'so'.
