Most of the time, I see it to the right of the word in question and in superscript.

thanks - that is what I thought .. but does it really matter if it is placed to the upper or lower side of the registered word, as long as it is displayed after the word. I have seen it in both places .. is one way wrong ... is the word not "registered" if it is placed to the lower right of the word .. in other words does it matter where it is diplayed as long as it is there?

To me that is more a matter of style then substance. However, I would tend to follow the common practice in this situation.
