I think it's probably, as you suppose, a narrative essay that describes an interaction - preferably between two people or sets of people (maybe how a public speaker manipulates his/her audience). You could do such an essay describing an interaction between two sides of yourself as you suggest, but it would be harder to do (as the narrative would have to deal chiefly with mental states).
