What´s the meaning of " I´ve already drunk the wine that Dad told me to lay down for twenty years"

Good wine goes on ageing, sometime for many decades. Wine is "laid down" to mature - each bottle is inserted on its side in a rack designed to hold bottles. The narrator has instead drunk the wine immediately while it is still young.
