Which one is correct

Which of the folowing sentences is correct ?

1.Did you benefit from playing squash in any other way? or

2. What have you benefited from playing squash in any other way ?

For your information,the second sentence refers to a situation whereby this player is still playing squash.

I would say 'Have you benefited in any other way from playing squash?' :-)

I agree with TDOL. The prepositional phrase "in any other way" is an adverb. As such, we tend to attach it to the nearest verb or verbal. In your sentences, it sounds as if it attaches to "playing" instead of the intended "benefit".

1. Both are correct grammatically if "in any way" is moved as stated.

2. These two questions are different. The first one expects an yes or no answer, but the second question asks what benefits the playing is getting.
(Maybe the questioner wants the player to stop playing squash.)

I don't completely agree. Because of the "in any other way", it is unlikely that the questioner wanted a one word answer, even if the first instance. :wink:
