in the spring / in spring
Hi Teachers
I did an exercise on "prepositions of time" on this site and I surprisingly found out that my answer was incorrect.
I was born in spring [ was my answer ]
and the correct answer should have been :
I was born in the spring .
Why is not my answer correct ? If I say :"I was born in the spring", the definite article claims, as far as I know, for a specific spring.
e. g. I was born in the spring of 1950.
Is it correct or not ? If not, why?
Thank you very much in advance
Regards,

Re: in the spring / in spring
There is little or no difference between saying 'spring' or 'the spring,' either is acceptable. I suppose the problem is that there is only one choice for the answer. Perhaps the question should be revised.

Hi Curmudgeon
Thank you very much for clarifying that. I`ll follow your advice about revising the question.
Best wishes

I fully agree with you. Why they think you've made a mistake is strange to me.
