By the way, is it correct english to say 'share them 'to' us'? Should it not be 'share them 'with' us'?

Current ones: 'the filth', 'the pigs', 'the [old] Bill', 'the fuzz', 'the boys in blue', 'noddy-men', 'the Plod'

Quite old ones (>50 yrs, at a guess): 'Rozzers', 'Peelers'

All informal; some abusive. There's also a phrase 'the thin blue line' (used as the title of a Rowan Atkinson show, but possibly older). It's a reference to a Kipling line: 'thin red line' (meaning soldiers).

Just curious, is it correct to say 'share them 'to' us'? Shouldn't it be ' share them 'with' us' instead?

I suppose 'the old bill', but 'pigs' and filth are used by some (normally recidivistic types)

Interesting ! Why "Bill" and not some other name? Is this name most common in England?

Thank you very much
