Why the past perfect??? Doesn't it describe a state in the past and isn't the "feel" there a stative verb?

Tdol is right. It`s present perfect .[ not past perfect]
Jenny has no longer been afraid of seeing a dentist since that day.- it refers to an indefinite event which has an obvious result in the present.[she is no longer afraid]
