| | Thread "number" Is it possible to assign a thread number for searching and referencing purpose? We can make an index later on. One suggestion of such a number is a combination of date of origin and a sequencial number.

BMO | The answer to the first question is that it is a thread number. That link takes you to the beginning of this thread (discussion). To go directly to your post (the one I am replying to), go to: http://www.usingenglish.com/forum/vi...?p=19792#19792.
I don't quite understand the second question, but the answer to the third one is yes.
:)

| | Can you append the thread number, such as 3868, at the end of a topics. Like "How did swear words come about (T=3868)." My point is it is easier to refer to when you are telling people where to look. In each forum, or own personal posts page, we have this heading:
Topics, Replies, Author, Views, Last post.
The thread number could be under Topics. You could also add a column "Thread" but it may be more work.
You could tell us, Oh, it has been asked before, go to this thread number. We could tell friends, please search for these threads. Of course, it would be nice if there is a search by thread button to go along.
