Meaning of a sentence.
Speech was given to man to conceal his thoughts.
He was a learned man among lords, and a lord among learned men.
What is the meaning of this sentence?
Could anyone explain it.
(I don't have context, please explain what you understand)

speech is the medium by which we express our thoughts. The speciality of speech is that we can choose what we want to say. we may have a lot of things in our mind, but we decide to let out only what we think is relevant. we sometimes do not speak all that is in our minds. we hide certain things from the listeners. sometime we even lie, that is we are hiding what is in our thoughts.
He is a lord and a learned man. Among the lords he is the wisest one. And, in the group of learned men, he is a lord. This implies that within a group he is always the superior.
