    Default grammar

    Hi,

could you please tell me how can I recognize to whom the word "performing" refers in the following text:

an employee of the company performing the services (does it refer to the employee or the company? Does it depend on the context or is there any other way to make it clear?)

    Thank you very much.

    Hanka

In this context "performing" refers to the employee. It could refer to the company if you remove the word "employee"

But the company could also perform the services, couldnīt it?

    And what about:
an employee of the company selling the goods (both the employee and the company could sell the goods or not?)

    Thanks.

Yes, sure. They both can sell goods. When you say an employee of the company you speak about one member of the company.

Great But it could mean an emloyee of a company which sells the goods. In that case it would refer to the company, am I right?

    Hi,
I think when it's ambiguous, the priority should be given to the last noun - the closest.
