I am having difficulty with words where the singular and plural are the same, for example:
What they are looking for is fish. Fish is a good, high-energy food.
Should I use is or are in these two examples?
Thankyou.
Hi
The sentences are correct. The noun "fish" has the same form both in the singular and in the plural. It is called "zero plural". The form of the verb used with this type of nouns depends on the context.
e.g.
Fish is good to eat. I have two little fish; they are playful.
The same with :sheep, deer, trout, salmon, etc.
