Re: I is In AmE, "I is" is usually used when quoting or imitating Black English or Ebonics. A lot of literature written during the Civil War era would adopt the dialect used by slaves at the time, which included "I is" instead of the more correct "I am."
I would daresay that unless you are of African heritage, or are a rapper using the phrase in your lyrics, saying "I is" would brand you as a racist and folks would think that you were mocking the Black population. |
