| | wh queston Tom: I don't like your hat very much.
Jack: Oh, come on.
Tom: Just kidding.
I want to make a wh question and I want to use "kidding". Is he kidding Jack? Do we need a preposition after kidding or not?
Thanks |

| | Re: wh queston Yes, in your example he's kidding Jack, and no prepositions are needed. Tom could say "Just kidding!" or "I'm kidding!" or simply "Kidding!" (said with a smile and hands held up in defense), and the meaning would be understood. |

Does it mean that the kidder crossed his arms before his chest?
Thanks |

Thanks | He might (adopting a defensive position), or he might put his hands up in mock surrender, or he might mime a downward wave of the hands (as if trying to calm the other person down).

| | Re: wh queston This'll teach me to interfere in Ouisch's conversation. I have a feeling that the more I say, the more confused you'll get. Can some other teacher take over? Sorry, wuwei.

| | Re: wh queston You'd say "Just kidding!" while holding your hands in front of you, at approximately shoulder level, with the fingers pointing up towards the sky. Sort of the same way you'd hold your hands if you'd been arguing with a friend and then you'd say "OK, I give up!" | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
