hello everybody
kindly, what the difference bitween the following sentences:
1. this book will help you improve your linguistic skills.
and
2. this book will help you to improve your linguistic skills.
becuase I notice the verb "help" somtimes followed by the preposition "to" and someties is not.[/b]
The difference between the two sentences is the word to. Other than that, none.
:)
The verb "help" is one verb that can take either a bare infinitive or a "to" infinitive as a complement. The verb "dare" is another example.Originally Posted by aristotle

Additionally, the to is (with "help" at least), I believe, omitted more often than not. Example:
- Using this electronic chess tutor will help you improve your chess.
One quick addition- after 'can't help' we the gerund- 'I can't help thinking....'![]()
That's very true -- and very odd.Originally Posted by tdol
