Good - generally you can clarify the precise make-up of the us, by adding extra pronouns before the verb. For example Let's you and I go, Jo. Sorry Babs, someone has to stay here - we'll phone when it's OK for you to join us.

Then why would anyone insert 'do' between 'let's' and 'eat'? Could it not be a way of emphasising that 'we must eat' ? The 'do' is usually stressed, if you get what I mean. Sure one can't say that? Don't tell me I am the only one that has come across this way of talking!!!
Yes, you're right.You can use "do" before the infinitive for emphasising the action you mean. You can also say "did go".
sounds very Brazilian to me! As it's always a bit trendy to slip in a bit of English in Brazilian Portuguese, I've heard people say "let's vamos" = let's we go !!

Hasn't that word 'vamos' already creeped into the English dictionary? Like the french 'sans' (without). I wonder if it's acceptable English to say for example ' I did it sans my boss' permission'. I have come across this a number of times. Does anybody out there know something?
