Default meaning of arms

To lay down one's arms.

I found, lay down -- give up

Then, To give up one's arms.

What is the meaning of arms here?
Could anyone explain it.

Hi,
I think it means to stop fighting; arms means weapons.
You are holding a kalashnikov. Now you are putting it on the ground, laying it down - you've decided to stop fighting.

Regards

You are welcome, Gary.
BTW I think it can also be figurative.
