He____________ his doctor before he took the medicine.
a. is said to have consulted
b. is said that he consulted
A is correct, in my opinion, but what about B?
thanks a lot, in advance

Re: is said...
It would work if the subject were it:
b. It is said that he consulted his doctor before he took the medicine.
All the best.

I think A is correct. B can be correct, too if we say like this: He said that he had consulted his doctor before he took the medicine.

Re: is said...
There's no 'is' in Harry's version, and it makes perfect sense. 'It is said that [reported speech]' and 'He said that [reported speech]' are both OK. They're not equivalent, but there's nothing wrong with either of them grammatically.
