COLLOQUIAL ENGLISH
Can you tell me if the expression "the occasional widower" is an idiomatic expression in English or can simply be translated by "le veuf occasionnel" in French ? thanks for your help.

That expression could be correct in English. It means the type of widower that one would encounter every now and then, not a common widower, or the widower as an exception to the usual person.
Most widowers have difficulty restarting their social lives, but one will encounter the occasional widower who becomes socially active right after his wife's funeral.
These parties attract many single people. Most of the people who come are divorced but the parties also attract the occasional widower.
