Get someone doing something....

Hi!

can you teachers please tell me more about the structure : "get someone doing something" ? as in :

"we have to get people warning about the storm"

It's not a very good examples- it would work better IMO if you put others after warning. However, it basically means to make/encourage other a people to start a process- we use -ing be`cause we are not thinking of a single result, but a process of warning people that may take time and the aim is to warn as many as possible.
