may i know the difference between log in and log on?

which is correct?
1. Please provide the complete username and password to log on to Oracle.
2. Please provide the complete username and password to log in to Oracle.

3. Login denied.
4. Logon denied.

I think both are OK, though I see 'login' more often.

On old computer systems, you had to 'log on'. IE, gain access to the system via a terminal. You were then 'on' the system.

Login is more common for gaining access to a website such as usingenglish.com.

As Todl said, there is no real difference, apart from showing your age
