Please advise whether (1) or (2) is correct?

(1) There was no more comment (or question).

(2) There were no more comments (or questions).

I would definitely say that number 2 is correct - There were no more comments (or questions).

Reason being:

The first one: There was no more comment or question.

We don't use "no more" unless we consider that there possibly could be more than one of whatever we are talking about. Therefore, this sentence doesn't sound right and it isn't right.


If we want to say "There was no more........... ", we would have to use a non-count noun. example: There was no more commentary.

Not wishing to tread on toes here. Both statements must be considered to be correct. e.g.

There was no more comment about the validity of the situation.

There were no more comments concerning the matter raised.

Looking at these sentences I can see that both statements could be used in either example.

I agree with John- comment can be uncountable, when talking in general, or countable when thinking of individual contributions to a discussion. Also, I'd mention that you could use 'further' with both.

I think it is rare that "comment" would be used as a non-count noun. It can be, but I don't think the frequency of it is that great at all. Quite minimal it would be in my opinion.
