Hello Dear

Hi, this is my first post here.

I have a simple quiestion about writing letters and more specifically the greeting.

When you start a letter with:
Hello dear, ...
What could be deducted from that greeting about the mood or intent. Could it be an ernest greeting or would it imply indifference?

I know that in our business communications variations on the greeting or lack of do reflect the intent or mood of the writer.

Can you help me with this please,

In British and American English, 'Hello dear' is not an acceptable business greeting; it is used only in familiar letters between lovers and among family members. It implies affection and close intimacy, usually with a child or member of the opposite sex.

Business letters begin with 'Dear Sir', 'Dear Madam', etc.
