Default along, across, down

He went along the street.

He went across the street.

He went down the street.

Could anyone explain me what is the difference between (along, across, down)?

When you go along the street, you move from one end to the other end, the street number becomes either larger or smaller.
When you go across street, you move from one side to the other side, for example from left side to the right side.
Down the street is similar to along the street.
