I don't really think it is a figure of speech; we often use 'bitter' for feelings- bitter hatred, etc. The nearest I can come up with is synaesthesia, which is where words associated with one sense are used for another. You could argue that a word associated with taste is being used for an emotion, but I don't find this very convincing. Maybe someone else will have a different perspective.![]()
