how do you use the idiom dog and pony show in a sentence? we're suppossed to write a story with a idiom in it and i had to do that one but i dont get it
A dog and pony show is a rehearsed, scripted presentation, as opposed to an honest, sincere discussion.
Please don't use my example, make up your own.
We expected the mayor to address our concerns about crime in our city, but all we got was a dog and pony show about the new sidewalk beautification project.
There is an implication that the dog and pony show is meant to be impressive, but lacks substance and sincerity.
What was supposed to be a public hearing regarding the proposed location of a toxic waste site turned out to be nothing more than a dog and pony show with public education posters and Power Point presentations.
I guess Ouisch and I have seen our share of politicians giving dog and pony shows.
I always call a spade a spade; that's why I'm never good at giving a dog and pony show.
Or,
I'm as awkward at giving a dog and pony show as pulling my punches.
