Thanks Tdol and Humble :) Now I have a much clearer picture of when to use 'quite'. I'll have a look at M.Swan's explanation for details. Is M. Swan = Michael Swan? I think I've heard of him, but I'm not sure.

Right, Michael Swan. His Practical English Usage is the best book I've ever had on grammar.
