Default a physical response of choice?

"Research provides evidence that reflexology work can create a physical response of choice."

What does "of choice" mean in this context?

I think it is saying that by using reflexology, a practitioner can ameliorate/improve a client's physical state. More context would be a help!

What follows is:
"In a study by researchers in Austria, reflexology work on the kidney reflex area was found to affect blood flow to the kidnesy. A further study by those researchers showed increased blood flow to the intestines following reflexology work applied to the corresponding reflex area...." -- Hand Reflexology by Barbara & Kevin Kunz

I'm guessing ... maybe "of choice" means something like "specific". So the following text gives some examples of specific effect reflexology does to the body. Does my guess make sense?

Pretty much as you suggest. A good reflexologist can affect a specific part of the anatomy (the part of choice) through the manipulation of the necessary region. So if someone comes with a problem in their stomach or their liver or whatever, the practitioner can choose to concentrate on that region.

Interesting research!
