Default don't have to / needn't

Hi!

Is there any difference in meaning between these two sentences? Do don't have to and needn't mean the same?

I don't have to do the hoovering every day.

I needn't do the hoovering every day.

Thank you

Mia

the difference is where the obligation comes from.
I need not ... -- the obligation comes from me.
I do not have to -- the obligation comes from someone else

I needn't = I do not feel it is necessary for me to do sg
I do not have to -- someone else thinks that it is not obligatory that I do sg

but if I want I can do. Right?

O.K. Can you give some very typical examples?
