fairly unpleasant character
The father in the film is portrayed as a fairly unpleasant character.
What does `fairly unpleasant character' mean in the above sentence?
Could anyone explain it?

Re: fairly unpleasant character
It means he's not very nice, but he probably has at least one redeeming quality. In this case, it sounds like the father was probably very strict with his children, and maybe not very affectionate. However, he still comes home from work every night, and he earns a paycheck to support his family.
(This is just an example. I don't know exactly what film you're referring to.)
