I'll expand Anglika's explanation; perhaps that will help. 'Triumph over' is a verb that means 'be the winner [in a contest]'. The contest is in the mind of the cricket selectors, and the two sides of the contest are
hope and
experience:
Hope: 'I hope Sehwag will do well.'
Experience: 'Look at his record; of course he won't.'
