Question phrasel verbs

hi there! I have a question about phrasel vebs why when watch videos sometin¡mes i see verbs with up or down and when i look them in the dictionary i don't find them. Does up or down mean to emphasize a verb or what?

Hi,
An example of what you mean would help, but I assume you mean a phrasal verb like: "put up" or "lie down". Regular dictionaries won't necessarily include the preposition unless it is an idiom. For example, "put up with" means "to tolerate", so you may find that idiom in a current language dictionary. I recommmend you buy a phrasal verb dictionary and keep it by the t.v.! Perhaps someone out there can recommend a good phrasal verb dictionary...?

Up can be just an intensifier, it’s used to urge smb:
Eat up your omelette, honey, and we’ll go for a walk.
