The boy's own weekly & Milton
Please help me understand the meaning and allusions of this sentence:
"It may be that my subculture has conditioned me to see Mickey Mouse comics as the finest things since the dizzy heights of THE BOY'S OWN WEEKLY,whereas your dominant colture makes it impossible for you not to regard MILTON as magnificent."
Re: The boy's own weekly & Milton
'Boy's Own' was a children's comic from a few decades ago, so that person's culture is predominantly comic and popular culture. In the traditional canon of English literature, Milton is one of the greatest poets, and also one associated with learning and great seriousness. It's cartoons versus epic poetry. ;-)
