Default the role of the teacher in Standard Based Instruction

Hi everybody, I appreciate in advance any help from you, I am really very bewildered about the roles the teacher can play inside the classroom according to the point of view of the Standard Based Instruction or what is called Competency Based Education. In fact, I am still searching for some clarifications about that since I am a student teacher taking my training of English teachers in a pedagogical center (Junoir High Schools) in Morocco. If there is something to share with us concerning this point I will be very grateful to you and thank you in advance!!!

You say you are bewildered. What do you understand or think of the roles?

thank you for you reply, we (my colleagues and me as teacher trainees) have been all the time talking about the roles of the teacher; he/she should be just a guide, a facilitator, an observer, and so many others but the question is how can he/she adopt these roles since they are all already mentioned in the previous approaches and methods? here I ask another question: are there any other roles the teacher can adopt in SBE? thanks!!

It depends on how much you want to break the role of the teacher up; how about entertainer? I don't mean that a teacher has to be a comedian, but making the lessons enjoyable is a terribly important part of teachig for me. What about the pastoral care elements? I have always taught adults, so have less to do in this, but when teaching newcomers to the UK, especially asylum seekers, there was a lot of this- helping them adjust to the new society and deal with cultural issues.
