hi....
-In the sentence "You suck"
Is suck a verb or adj
I thought it's verb but a friend told me it's adj and are is deleted coz it's a slang she means You are suck
.
.
-In english can be-verbs be deleted? such as, you are beautiful you beautiful
I always wondered, in my language we dont use Be-verbs, we have them but we dont ALWAYS use them.
You can pretty well say that the verb is essential for English. There are times that it WOULD be possible to see something without a 'be' verb but it wouldn't be a deletion so much as two separate thoughts. The odd time that this happens, it would occur in speech, but the intonation would clearly illustrate this.
You. Beauuuuuutiful.
To an ENL, these would be viewed as two separate thoughts.
Hmm, and it seems I’ve seen things like You fool. I thought it was an address, but why no comma?
It's a verb, Jesse20. It's an intransitive verb. It changes form: suck, sucks, sucked, will suck:
You suck
She sucks
He sucks
It sucks
Here's a dictionary source for you: Definition of suck - Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary
