Question ye God rest YE merry gentlemen

Pronunciation of YE as in "God rest YE merry gentlemen" as opposed to E as in "Eat" by native Japanese speakers learning ESL. compare (ear/year)
    pronunciation chart/ diagram? other experience?
This is not a commonly used sound, so receives little attention.
