Default Past Perfect tense

Is this a correct way of framing a past perfect tense sentence.

I had lived here for 4 months before I shifted there.

The tense usage is correct, but it's unclear to me what you mean by "shifted" in this sentence. Also, the usage of "here" and "there" is a little confusing. Do you mean something like, "I had lived there for four months before I moved there," or "I had lived here for four months before I moved there permanently?"
