    Default Definite Article

    In the sentence "To see that you live in heaven - you have to go through hell first" should there be a 'the' in front of "heaven" and "hell"?

    No. 'Live in heaven ... go through hell'; the metaphorical/metaphysical places have no article. You can say 'He had to go through the hell of constant rejection'; but the place presided over, allegedly, by Old Nick has no 'the'.
