Which of these sentences is correctly punctuated:
1-John in a blue suit is an attractive man, but John in a red suit isn't.
2-John, in a blue suit, is an attractive man, but John, in a red suit, isn't.

They are both punctuated correctly, but the first one is preferable.

Again, is is a close call. If there were two men named John and one changed the articles before the colors to "the", I would skip the commas. That is because both descriptive phrases would then be essential in differentiating the two Johns. As written, I would use the commas.

I assume that context would reveal whether the sentence was about one "John" or two, but Mike makes a good point.
