Which is correct:
1-Tear gas was indiscriminately sprayed on the protesters.
2-Tear gas was sprayed indiscriminately on the protesters.
3-Tear gas was sprayed on the protesters indiscriminately.
They are all correct.
:)
Indeed they are. :wink:Originally Posted by RonBee

Thank you Ronbee, Mike and TDOL.
I realized that I had left one possibilty out.
Could you tell me if this one is correct:
4-Indiscriminately, tear gas was sprayed on the protesters.
I don't like it greatly. It's trying to be a sentence adverb modifying the whole sentence to express the writer's view, but it doesn't really cut the mustard for me.![]()
That might work better in the active voice, thus:Originally Posted by navi tasan

I still can't say that I'm happy with it.
:(
Well, let's say that explains why I had forgotten it in the first place!
(I am trying to act as if ...)
I do agree with Ron that it is a bit better in the active.![]()
I agree with Ron and TDOL. Since the sentence adverb has become accepted, these opening adverbs can be confusing. The other positions would be better. :wink:Originally Posted by navi tasan
