(The speaker was in Singapore and giving a testimony in our temple.) Is 'up' necessary? Shouldn't it be 'taking' instead of 'bringing'?

She reminded me of the purpose of bringing the Gohonzon up to England. (The speaker was giving a testimony in our temple in Singapore.) Should 'bringing' be 'taking' and is 'up' needed? (The Gohonzon is the object of worship in Nichiren Shoshu Buddhism.)

If the testimony is being given in Singapore, I would expect "take" to be the correct word to use. Whatever, you couldn't "bring something up to England" - it makes no sense. You could bring / take something over to England.
