Default jointed the big league.

However, former India opener Ashok Mankad refused to criticize the team’s performance.

“I give full credit to Bangladesh for choosing a stage like the World Cup to prove their point and show to the world that they have joined the big league.

“It is very easy to point out mistakes after the event is over and the Indians have lost to a lesser known team. But the public and the press should understand that this is not the end of the world. What needs to be done now is to find a way to regroup and build a team for the future. Blaming the coach, captain or the team members is not going to help much as everyone, including the BCCI needs to share the responsibility,” he added.

What does `the big league' mean in this context?
Could you explain it please?
