1. What will you do when you are in my shoes?

2. What would you do if you were in my shoes?

Should 'would' and 'were' should be used instead in sentence 1?
I believe with the 'if', the second sentence is correct.

Grammatically both are correct.

But second sentence is correct in this situation. [You are right]

2 is correct. 1 is possible, but only in the limited context of someone handing over responsibility - 'when you are in my shoes' refers to something that will definitely happen [for example, after a person who is about to retire has left a company - a younger colleague will be 'in his shoes'], and 'What will you do?' is a reasonable thing to ask in those circumstances.
