When a teacher asks his pupil to carry books for him, can he say, "Please help me by carrying these books" ? In Singapore, a teacher will say, "Please help me carry these books."

Either would be fine, though the second one is probably more common.

Just to confirm. Are you referring to "Please help me carry these books" ? But I understand that "help me carry" means that the teacher has to carry the books, but in Singapore, the teacher will let the student carry all the books.

I feel that the question should be "Please help me by carrying the books." I'm not saying I'm correct, but I would like to seek your confirmation.

In the UK, I think the teacher would share the load, in which case I'd use the second. I'd use the first to get them to carry everything.
