simple present verb to be

I am vey confused when they say simple present verb to be. Does to be change when used with different subjects like I am, he is, we are etc but it is just a single verb or is it combined with order verbs like "to work" etc.

I am thinking that to be is just one verb and that changes its form when used with different subjects like I am, He is, We are etc. Am I correct?

Yes, you are right. Don't forget the verb "to have" too.

I just wanted to say that "have" also differs from the other verbs in the third person singular "has", while other verbs take -s or -es.
To be( am, is, are)
To have ( have, has)
Any other verb +s or +es
go - goes
speak - speaks etc.
