How and when do we have to use this article?

It's complicated. But the basic rule is: When you use THE, something or somebody is in your mind and you refer to the thing or the person. In most cases, the thing or the person was mentioned bofore and you want to mention again. For example:

I saw a teacher yesterday. The teacher was old. (The second time you mention the teacher, you use THE.)

There was happiness on his face a moment ago. But the happiness has disappeared now.
