Thank you queenbu
Thank you queenbu for your help so far.
I need the actual end date of the use of the word egges as opposed to where it was used
Again, thank you for your contribution. Much appreciated.

Re: When was the word "egges" used last?
What I could find is that it was used in Middle English , i.e.c.1100 to c.1500.
Middle English

Middle English is the name given by historical linguistics to the diverse forms of the English language spoken between the Norman invasion of 1066 and the mid-to-late 15th century, when the Chancery Standard, a form of London-based English, began to become widespread, a process aided by the introduction of the printing press into England by William Caxton in the 1470s, and slightly later by Richard Pynson. By this time the Northumbrian dialect spoken in south east Scotland was developing into the Scots language. The language of England as spoken after this time, up to 1650, is known as Early Modern English.

Early Modern English refers to the stage of the English language used from about the end of the Middle English period (the latter half of the 1400s) to 1650.

Re: When was the word "egges" used last?
OK queenbu, from your most recent post, I get the message that the word was used between the years 1100-1650.
However, a Google search, shows the following entry,
EXPLORION - Travel & Exploration Online - Out of Doors - The Natural History of Wiltshire - Page 86
If you do a search for the word egges, you will come across it in this page.
Go to page 10 of the same book and you shall see that it was written in 1847.

I don't know, I am getting confused more and more when I see no definitive answer
All the same, thank you for your contribution queenbu

Could it be that it was originally penned pre 1650 and published nearly two centuries later???
I don't know, I am getting confused more and more when I see no definitive answer
All the same, thank you for your contribution queenbu

Re: When was the word "egges" used last?
If you go through all the pages of the website you gave me you'll see that the original book (where the word 'egges' is to be found) contains up to Chapter XX (see page 3). The rest is written after.
